HURON: Thomas J. Atskoff, 79, of Huron, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Admiral's Pointe in Huron.
He was born January 17, 1935, in Newark, Ohio, son to the late Ferdinancho and Anna (Bell) Atskoff. Thomas lived briefly in Indiana, spent 18 years in West Palm Beach, Florida and moved to Huron 20 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve during the Korean Conflict. Thomas was the Vice President of regional sales for Permatex in Palm Beach, Florida. After retirement he worked for Huron Market and volunteered for Stein Hospice.
Thomas had a great sense of humor. An avid reader, Thomas used his gift of words as a very articulate story teller who wrote many conservative political editorials. He was also an extra in the movie Caddyshack. Thomas loved football, especially Ohio State and the Cleveland Browns. He treasured his family and extended family. Thomas was the only U.S. born member of his family.
Survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Karen (Kistler); daughters, Tricia (Mark) Applegate of Newark and Rebecca (Dan) Longenecker of Lake Worth, Florida; stepchildren, Karen Obryan of North Fairfield, Dawn (Jeff) Hahn of Perkins and Chris (Laura) Adams of Perkins; grandchildren, Nicole, Chelsea and Kasha; step grandchildren, Brennan, Caleb, Tyler, Aaron, Brooke, Genevieve and Gabriella; and great grandchildren, Jayden, Natalie, Gracyn and Lily.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol and sisters, Vera and Marie.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the 12 p.m. service on Tuesday, June 10th at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London with Pastor Rusty Yost officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
