Joan A. Marmie

NEWARK: A Funeral Mass for Joan Ashley Marmie, 73, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 24, 2014, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Marmie, a 1958 graduate of Newark High School, died at her home on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. She was born in New York, New York on December 31, 1940 to the late Russell and Margaret (Sempa) Salmon.

Joan, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, worked for many years as the secretary at Newark Catholic High School and was instrumental in initiating the Newark Catholic Foundation. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and supporting all of her grandchildren in their many school and sporting activities.

Joan is survived by her sons, Craig (Patty) Marmie of Lincoln, Nebraska, Doug (Kim) Marmie, and David (Tonya) Marmie, all of Newark; her grandchildren, Caitlin, Blake, Joel, Madison, Tanner, Trinity, and Reagan; her brother, Thomas (Judy) Salmon of Fort Pierce, Florida; step-sister-in-law, Judy Owen of Marion, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, William Marmie; and her step-brother, Sam Owen.

Friends and family may call from 4-8 P.M. Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Newark Catholic Foundation or Newark Catholic Athletic Association, 1 Green Wave Drive, Newark, Ohio 43055.
