John "J.R." Goodin

NEWARK: A funeral service, to celebrate the life of John "J.R." Goodin, age 47, of Newark, will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with John Schouten officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.

J.R. was born in Newark, Ohio on August 12, 1966 to the late Jack and Marjorie (Van Orman) Goodin. He passed away at his residence on February 18, 2014.

J.R. was co-owner of Goodin Electric Inc. He was a member of Vinyard Grace Fellowship Church; ACME Lodge # 554 F. & A.M.; York Rite; former president, life member and sponsor of Ducks Unlimited; and was a volunteer with the Newark Township Fire Department for over 20 years. J.R. was the type of person who lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with his wife, Cindy, duck hunting, deep sea fishing, but also important was spending time with his family and working with his brother, Howard.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy (Barrick) Goodin, whom he married May 2, 2008; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Julie Goodin; step-children, Kate, Rachel, Sydney, Tori and Regan Carpenter; nieces, Courtney and Grace Goodin; step-mother, Debbie Goodin; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doug and Melanie Barrick; and his beloved dog and hunting partner, Wyatt.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Virginia Van Orman; and paternal grandparents, Howard and Elsie Goodin.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of J.R. to the Carol Strawn Center, 126 W. Church St., Newark, Ohio 43055. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville St., Newark on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Masonic service will be conducted at 6:00 PM by the ACME Lodge.
