NEWARK: Funeral services for Betty Irene Winegardner, 90, of Newark, will be held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday February 26, 2014 with Pastor William Wayt officiating. Private interment will take place in Zion Cemetery.

Betty went to be with the Lord at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Saturday, February 22, 2014. She was born in Newark, Ohio on July 15, 1923 to the late Herschel "Pop" and Emma "Mom" (Holman) Thompson.

Betty, a parishioner of Wright United Methodist Church, was an avid bowler and enjoyed reading, playing bingo, euchre and crocheting.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, John and Cathy Hammond, and Douglas and Susan Hammond, all of Newark, her daughter, Deborah Parker of Utica; her 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katherine, Emily, Anthony, Melissa, Jennifer, Courtney, Cody, Wendy, Kelly, and T.J.; 17 great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Billy Joe and Marjean Thompson, of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Paul Winegardner; her daughter, Earlynn (Muffett) Schimpf; her brother, Ralph (Smoke) Thompson; and her sister, Emajean McCabe.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014.
