NEWARK: Funeral services for Virginia "June" Greer will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st Street, Newark with Pastor Steven Brand and Elder John Krumm presiding. Interment will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and acquaintances 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Greer, age 93 of Newark, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 20, 1920 in Newark, Ohio the daughter of the late Clifford and Ida (Crawmer) Campbell. June graduated from Newark High School in 1938. After graduating from Newark City Hospital School of Nursing, June worked as a private duty nurse and occupational nurse at Owens Corning. In 1946 she married George E. Greer and settled on Hudson Ave. After raising her two daughters, Jan and Sally, she resumed her nursing career at Licking Memorial Hospital where she retired from in 1985. June was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a true blessing to her family. In her retirement, June enjoyed many winter trips to Arizona to visit her daughter Jan. Both loved to explore the natural beauty of the area. She was also an avid OSU sports fan. June was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Newark for over 50 years. In 2012 she was honored by First Presbyterian Church as "Woman of the Year." Her grandchildren gave her much joy as she attended their school, sports and music activities and cheered them on in all they did. She received much joy interacting with her great grandchildren as well. She was also blessed to be a part of the extended Funk family.
June is survived by her daughters Janice Greer of Phoenix, AZ and Sally (Glen) Funk of Granville; three grandchildren Courtney (Mark) Hall of Alexandria, OH, Carrie (Ben) Feldmeyer of Cincinnati, OH and David Funk of Cincinnati, OH; four great grandchildren Luke and Caleb Feldmeyer, Miranda and Sarah Hall. June is also survived by two nieces, Janie (Craig) Lambie and Deb Feichter and many wonderful cousins.
In addition to her parents, husband George E. Greer (1974); brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Dorothy Campbell; two grandchildren Stephanie and Jonathan Funk; nephew Tim Campbell preceded June death.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio especially Pat, Stacy and Rosemary; special friend and care giver, Marlene Butler and the Licking County Aging Program including Marge, Kim and Flossie for their wonderful care and support.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to Hospice of Central Ohio, First Presbyterian Church of Newark or to the Licking County Aging Program.
