Gene Nesbitt

NEWARK: A funeral service celebrating the life of Gene Nesbitt, age 89, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 67 North Fifth Street, Newark, with the Rev. William J. Rauch officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery.

Gene passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). She was born January 21, 1925 in Richland County, Ohio to the late George A. and Mary E. (Frahm) Siebert.

After graduating from North Fairfield High School, Gene was employed by the United States Air Force at Shelby Depot located in Shelby, Ohio. It was there she met her husband Samuel Nesbitt and they married on October 24, 1946. They resided in Shelby, Ohio until 1961 and then moved to Dayton, Ohio, followed by a transfer to Newark. She was a parishioner of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, active in Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Alice Circle, Faith After 55, Stitch-n-Chatter, Forward Group, the Girl Scouts, Newark Band Boosters and the Newark Football Booster Club.

She is survived by her son, Grant (Nancy) Nesbitt of Newark; two daughters, Rita (Gene) Ricketts of Newark and Cynthia (Michael) Morgan of Woodlands, Texas; five grandchildren, Angela Morgan of Frisco, Texas, Craig (Renee Smith) Morgan of McKinney, Texas, Todd (Tara) Ricketts of Newark, Christina Ricketts of Waco, Texas and Samuel Nesbitt of Newark; two great-grandchildren, Leyton and Aeivan Ricketts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Nesbitt, who passed away in 1990; three sisters, Ruth Stevens, Thelma Wilcox and Mariam Easter.

Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Church Memorial Fund or to Hospice of Central Ohio, Post Office Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058.
