Robert E. "Bob" Varner

NASHPORT: Robert E. "Bob" Varner, 89, of Nashport, Ohio went home to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon, May 13, 2014.

Born March 3, 1925 in Nashport, he was a son of the late George and Inez (Gladden) Varner and was a 1941 graduate of Hopewell High School. Bob farmed his family farm which has been in the family for nearly 200 years. He was a carpenter at Owens Corning Fiberglass for 30 years until his retirement in 1981. One of Bob's favorite past times was giving flying lessons. He owned and operated Varner Airport, which was located on the family farm. One of his proudest moments was seeing his wife receive her pilot's license and his two daughters solo on their sixteenth birthdays.

Surviving is his loving wife, Clarice (Jordan) Varner whom he married on March 28, 1948 and they celebrated 66 years together this past spring. Also surviving are two daughters, Irvalee (Dennis) Hunter and Ariel (Donnie) Pettit both of Nashport; five grandchildren, Jada Hunter (fiancé Kyle Zimmerman) of Heath, Scotty (Cassie) Pettit of Zanesville, Justin Hunter of Nashport, Sheila (Bryan) Lewis of Newark, and Jasalyn Hunter of Heath; six great grandchildren, Chloe and Clayton Hunter, Kaylynn and Leigha Pettit, Levi and Lainey Lewis, and the seventh due in September and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Dale Robert Varner who passed away February 14, 1954 and three brothers David (Orris) Varner, Joseph Varner, and George Varner.

Family and friends may call from 2pm to 8pm Sunday, May 18th at the Varner Family Home, 4685 Varner Lane, Nashport.

Graveside funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, May 19th at Beulah Cemetery, Cottage Hill Road, Nashport with Pastor Charles Norris officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sonshine Children's Home (c/o of Mary Bennett 18754 Hwy 160, Linefork, KY 41833) or Genesis Hospice (713 Forest Ave, Zanesville OH 43701).
