NEWARK: A funeral service celebrating the life of Helen M. Shaw, age 91, of Newark will be held at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, with Rev. Marcus Pomeroy officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Shaw passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Autumn Health Care. She was born January 1, 1923 in Newark to the late Gail and Mabel (Hickman) Vermilion.
Mrs. Shaw worked as an accountant for the Licking County Services Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newark, Madison Grange, Farm Bureau and Hanover Order of the Eastern Star, where she had served as past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, but most of all she will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother to her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Rev. Marcus) Pomeroy of Berwyn, PA, two sons, Richard (Ann) Shaw of Newark and Roger (Dea) Shaw of Newark; a sister, Juanita Hunter of Newark; six grandchildren, Brent and Chad Pomeroy, Brian, Eric and Ben Shaw and Courtney Crabtree and 16 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank special caregiver, Debi Kellenbarger.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren Shaw on June 16, 2009.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
