NEWARK: Betty K. Burke, 95, of Newark, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, in Newark, Ohio. She was born June 12, 1919, in Bucyrus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Walter James and Grace Pearl (Staley) Kerr.
She was a graduate of Mt. Zion High School in Bucyrus and received a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from The Ohio State University. Mrs. Burke retired from the Newark City School District where she was a teacher and librarian. From 1962-85, she taught at Kennedy Junior High School and from 1985-86 at Lincoln Junior High School.
Mrs. Burke held a life-long love of books and the English language. She cherished all creatures' great and small, taking time to appreciate flowers and song birds. Over the years, she had been a member of the Coterie Club in Newark and Monday Talks in Granville.
A devoted wife, mother and friend to all she is survived by her son Roger Michael Burke; her daughter Patricia Anne Burke Row; granddaughter Tara Row Davis and a great-grandchild Mason E. Davis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roger K. Burke; a brother James Walter Kerr who had resided in Richardson, Texas; and a sister, Marilyn Virginia Kerr who had been a resident of Columbus.
Mrs. Burke will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.
