 Leroy W. McGinnis
NEWARK: A funeral service for Leroy W. McGinnis, known to family and friends as "Meatball and Sonny", 80, of Newark, will be held at 11AM, on Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery with the Licking County Veterans Alliance providing military funeral honors.
Mr. McGinnis passed away Monday, May 14, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 11, 1932, in Newark, a son of the late Cecil Leroy and Bertha May (Mauller) McGinnis. A lifelong resident of Newark, Mr. McGinnis was a gentle, kind and faithful man who loved his family and his country. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict,retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas and was a member of Second Baptist Church. Mr. McGinnis was a past president of the Newark Eagles #387, member of American Legion Post 804, Newark REAC, Fiberglas Retirees Club, Buckeye Lake Seniors Club, Heath Seniors Club, and the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association. He enjoyed golf, football, woodworking, dirt track auto racing and was a very dedicated fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley E. (Mazzei) McGinnis; two daughters, Vickie (John Chambers) of Oilton, OK, Judy Kain (Gary Murch) of Cushing, OK; two sons, Michael (Amee) McGinnis of San angle, TX, John McGinnis of Clyde, TX; step sons, Wayne Timothy (Nancy) Duston, Robin Eugene (Jackie) Duston, Joseph Fabin Duston all of Newark, Lee (Sue) Ashcraft, Tom Ashcraft, James Dixon all of Newark, Jack (Aneita) Dixon of Winter Haven, FL; step daughters, Alyce (Brad) Shane, Deborah (Pat) Bennett both of Newark; many loved and cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy (Russell) Friend of Newark and his beloved dog, Tina.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Renicker and Shirley Clark and his beloved dog, Rusty.
Friends and family call 5-8PM, Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st Street.
