Verna M. "Rita" Whitlatch

NEWARK: A funeral service for Verna M. "Rita" Whitlatch, age 75, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 15, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, with Pastor Eric Miller officiating. Burial will take place in Hanover Cemetery.

Rita passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at The Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University following a long illness. She was born January 17, 1938 in Toboso, Ohio to the late Kerney L. and Elsie L. (Romine) Baughman.

Rita lived in Newark for over 40 years where she raised two sons, Jack and Jarrod Whitlatch. Rita was a Librarian for over 23 years and worked for Newark City Schools at both Hartzler and Central Schools.

She is survived by two sons, Jack (Janice) of White Cottage, Jarrod (Patti) of Orient; four grandchildren, Ginger (Chuck) Willis, Caleb Atkinson, Haddon Whitlatch and Keegan Whitlatch; a great-grandson, Troy Willis; a sister, Janice "Peg" Shaffer of Florida; a nephew, James (Laura) Baughman; three nieces, Melanie Van Way and Jeanette (Tom) Cray, and Karen (Andrew) Six; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Delbert, Lawrence and Glen; and two sisters, Bonnie Alice and Ruth Hammond.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 14 at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
