NEWARK: A funeral service for Billy D. McArtor, 92, of Newark will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. McArtor died on March 4, 2013 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 1, 1920 in Newark to the late Willard and Evelyn (McLaughlin) McArtor. Bill served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during WWII. Bill had worked for the Heath Refinery, B&O Railroad and retired from Newark City Schools as a custodian.

Bill was an accomplished bass guitar player and played for 60 plus years with several bands including Joe Gratonic Band, Randy Nelson Band and Wayne Martin Band, Zerger Hall Band directed by Pat Hollingswort, and played the House Band at Hillbilly Park for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Ellen (Corder) McArtor, whom he married on August 25, 1942; two nieces, and his adorable dog Mandy, whom he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty McLaughlin; step-mother, Wanda (Brooks) McArtor; brother-in-law, Richard Graham, and step-brother, Charles Brooks.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Licking Memorial Hospital, Emergency room, doctors and staff at ICU, Kathy Bradley and her office staff, the chaplains, Cory and Jeff, the staff in the cafeteria, especially Nancy and Debbie, the Ultra Sound Band with whom he played. Those doctors were wonderful. All his friends at YMCA who made his day almost everyday. All his many friends that he had known throughout the years, especially Fred and Aara Wise and Dick Dudgeon.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.
