NEWARK: A Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine Marie "Casey" Betz, 75, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 with Reverend Homer Blubaugh celebrating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Casey, a lifelong parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at the home she loved in east Newark on Monday, March 25, 2013. She was born in Newark on August 16, 1937 to the late Ralph J. and Blanche (Nairn) Gebhart.
Casey was a 1955 St. Francis de Sales High School graduate. After graduation, she worked for Ohio Power as well as supported the family business, Gebhart's Dairy. Casey later worked with her husband, Don Betz, in running Betz Accounting and Tax Service for many years in Newark.
During her life, Casey enjoyed participating in many sports to including softball, tennis, swimming and cycling. She was well known in Newark for her many years of cycling in Newark and the surrounding area. She participated in the annual Tour of Scioto River Valley (TOSRV), a 200 mile, 2 day tour in the 1970's and 80's.
Casey is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Steve Koenig of Ostrander, Ohio and Mary Catherine Betz and Robert West of North Adams, Massachusetts; her son William Joseph Betz and Sarah Havice of Clearwater, Florida; her brother Ralph W. Gebhart and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Casey was preceded in death by her husband Donald L. Betz, who died in 1999; her brothers Joseph Gebhart, Richard Gebhart, Bernard Gebhart, Robert Gebhart; and sisters Dolores Gebhart Barclay and Elizabeth Gebhart Yonker.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M., Monday, April 1, 2013, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 P.M.
