Gerhardt Carl (Gus) Radde
LEESBURG, FL: Gerhardt Carl (Gus) Radde, 89, beloved husband of Marion (Gors) Radde of Leesburg, Florida left this world on June 29, 2013.
Gus was born in Germany to Otto and Anna Radde on February 5, 1924 and came to the United States as a young child.
His parents and only sister, Gertrude Rode, are deceased.
A graduate of Libbey High School in Toledo, Ohio, he entered the Army Air Corps during World War IL As a Staff Sergeant, Gus flew 30 missions out of England in B-17 bombers as a waist gunner. He was awarded both the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters for extraordinary achievement in aerial combat.
Gus and Marion were married on December 15, 1945 and raised a family of Patricia (Steve) Davis (deceased), Diane Kennedy and Joyce (Randy) Ayers. Gus has four granddaughters, Heather (Tony) Veneta, Angie (David) Hile, Jayme Kennedy and Teresa (Brian) Hughes. He is also survived by six much-loved great-grandchildren, Avery, Ethan, Hayden, Anthony, Amelia and "Little Gus" and his two nieces and a nephew.
Gus began his career as a tool and die maker in Toledo and retired as supervisor of repair parts in the mower engine business in Grafton, Wisconsin. Following retirement Gus and Marion moved to Leesburg, Florida where they enjoyed another 26 years together.
Gus was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman. He was a 68-year member of the American Legion and a Mason for 60 years.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial for Gus on August 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lakes of Leesburg Clubhouse.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Cornerstone Hospice in Tavares, Florida.
