Edward Dean Hammond

NEWARK: A memorial service for Edward "Ed" Dean Hammond will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st Street, Newark with Fr. Paul Williams presiding. The family will receive friends and acquaintances 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Military honors will be rendered by Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. Hammond, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Sharonbrooke Assisted Living. He was born March 9, 1934 in Newark, Ohio the son of Mercer Roy and Evelyn (Faust) Hammond. Ed was a long time resident of Newark and proudly served as a United States Army tank commander. He graduated from Newark High School and was a skilled plumber pipe fitter who belonged to Local #189 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union for over 55 years. He was known for his love and passion of cars. He enjoyed spending winters at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. His favorite pass time was sitting on the patio smoking a cigar.

Edward is survived by his son Todd (Lisa) Hammond of Newark; daughter Shelley (Joe) Ames of Coshocton; grandchildren Julie (Jon) Czapla and Philip Arthur; two great grandchildren Corey Rittenhouse and name sake Tyson Czapla as well as many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, his wife Janet Ruth Hammond, sister Esta Swain and brother-in-law Jim Swain preceded Ed in death.

The family suggests memorial gifts to Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-0430.
