1920 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Mary G. Van Horn

NEWARK: Funeral services for Mary G. Van Horn, 93 of Newark will be held Wednesday January 22, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Junction City, Ohio.

Mrs. Van Horn died Friday, January 17, 2014 in Philadelphia, PA. at her daughter's home. She was born November 22, 1920 in Perry County to the late Frank Harrison and Ethel Viola (Ricketts) Lott.

Mrs. Van Horn was a 1938 graduate of New Lexington High School and a 1942 graduate of Ohio University. She retired from the Newark City Schools in 1980. She had taught 7th grade science, Latin and English at Central Jr. High. She was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Licking County Chapter. She enjoyed playing bridge, square dancing, baking and canning fruits and vegetables. Mary enjoyed reading, bowling and especially spending time with her family. She had attended First United Methodist Church and was active in the Candlelighters group. She had recently been learning the followings of the Jehovah Witnesses. The past five years she has made her home with her daughter and son-in-law in Philadelphia as they have been her caregivers.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha (Pawoh) Tarlue of Philadelphia, PA; son, E. Lee Van Horn of Newark; grandchildren, Kathleen (Greg) Taylor of Central SC, Edgar Lee "Eddy" Van Horn, III of Newark; great grandchildren, Sarah (Scott) Kelly of Lima, OH, Joshua Taylor and Tyler Taylor of South Carolina, Brayden Lee Van Horn of Newark; great-great grandchildren, Emma, John, Jacob and Alyssa Kelly; sister, Margaret Wagner of Marionville, MO.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar L. Van Horn, October 3, 1999.

Visitation will be observed Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street, Newark.

Memorial contributions may be made to a local hospice organization in Mary's memory.
