Marjorie Cass Obituary

Marjorie Lee Cass

NEWARK: A celebration of life service for Marjorie Lee Cass, 83, of Newark, will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Vineyard Grace Fellowship, 4905 Jacksontown Rd., Heath, OH, with Pastor Doug Lynn officiating.

Marjorie Lee Cass, of Newark, Ohio, passed away Thursday, February 27th after an illness from which she could not overcome.

Marjorie was the eldest child of Lee H. and Gertrude Dill of Centerburg, Ohio. She was born December, 28, 1930.

After graduating high school, she married Don Cass of Newark, Ohio, in a ceremony held on a warm June day in 1950 at the Centerburg Methodist Church. After the wedding, she and Don set up house in Newark where they raised two children, Douglas and Lori Lee.

Marjorie was always the devoted and loving wife and mother to her family. She loved music and singing. When she was a young mother she taught her children about vocal harmonies and encouraged music lessons. Her home was always filled with piano or organ music.

She loved children and always saw the potential in them. She dedicated her time as the Children's Choir director at Christ United Methodist church (Newark) for several years. She was a volunteer for the Friendship Hour at Christ UMC, one of Newark's first after school children's study ministry. She was an elementary school secretary for Newark Public Schools, first at Woodside Elementary and then for many, many years at John Clem Elementary.

When her husband Don answered the call to pastoral ministry, she followed and supported him in every church he served - Chatham, St. Louisville, Brushy Fork, Toboso, Bennington Chapel, and Appleton United Methodist Churches. She supported not just his decision to minister, but also the church family, attending multitudes of weddings, dozens of funerals, and uncounted visitations. She continued to support her husband and family when Don retired as a Methodist minister and then founded and became the pastor of the non-denominational church Faith Outreach Fellowship (Vanatta) until Don's passing in 2003.

She loved God and was an incredible woman of faith. She was involved in the local Women's Aglow ministry for many years and gave talks of encouragement, dedication to God, and His love displayed in Jesus. As a pastor's wife, she was a great prayer warrior and she would say, "You can always pray!" She had great compassion for others and always thought the best of people.

For the past several years, she attended Vineyard Grace Fellowship and was active in the church's Grief Ministry providing comfort to those hurting in the way she best could.

She had great pride in her children and grandchildren and loved to share the latest news concerning their accomplishments and endeavors.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her younger siblings Jack F Dill (Dorothy) Lebanon, TN and Judy Whited (Roy) Centerburg, Ohio, her children Douglas Cass (Teresa) and Lori Lee Dixon (Jim) both of Newark, Ohio, and her grandchildren Kelsey, Drew (Emilie), and Maggie Lee Dixon, and Nicole Lee Rogers (Albert) and great-grandson Noah A. Rogers of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday prior to service at the church. Family has asked those who wish make contributions to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd. Newark OH 43055 or charity of one's choice.
