Rev. Jon Henley Cook

KENTON: Rev. Jon Henley Cook, 79, of Kenton and former minister of the East Liberty United Methodist Church, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Church in Columbus.

Born June 20, 1935 in Struthers, he was the son of the late Carl M. and Marie V. (Henley) Cook of Poland, OH.

A 1953 graduate of Springfield Local High School, he went on to attend Bluffton College and the University of Texas. He served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962. After serving his country, he worked in computer software and the life insurance industry before being called to minister in 1989. He became a Pastor in the United Methodist Church, serving several churches until 2013. He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Benton, Arkansas. He enjoyed singing, golfing, bowling, gardening and traveling but his biggest joy was to spend time at home with his family and to serve his church families.

Jon first married Nancy Lou (Evans) in 1956 and she preceded him in death March of 1997. In late 1997, he married ViAnn LeVan and she also preceded him in death in October of 2012.

Surviving are his children, Donnell (Lori) Cook of Mechanicsburg, Kevin Cook of Wooster and Stacey (Steve) Dye of Kenton; step children, April (Ray) Pulfer of Bellefontaine, Sheri (Tim Tevis) Costin of West Mansfield and Charles LeVan of West Liberty; grandchildren, Kelley Gibson and Taylor Hodge of Bellefontaine, Clay LeVan of West Liberty, Coltin Costin of West Mansfield, Connor and Caiden Dye of Kenton, Josh Cook of Springfield, Jacob Cook of South Dakota; and a sister, Judy (Richard) Maurer of Sunbury.

In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb Costin; and a sister, Kathleen Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the East Liberty United Methodist Church 11824 SR 287 East Liberty, OH 43319 with Reverend VernaGaye Sullivan and Reverend Jon Silveous officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in the North Greenfield Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home 222 West Center St West Mansfield, OH 43358.
