NEW BERN - Mrs. Katie Price Caton, of 2145 N.C. 17 North, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the age of 93. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Caton Sr. and a daughter, Mary Jo Caton. She was the youngest of twelve children and daughter of Lanie Price and Cason Scott Price. Katie lived most of her life in the Antioch community and was a lifetime member of Antioch Free Will Baptist Church.
Katie kept busy on the farm and in the garden where she loved growing tomatoes and other vegetables. For many years she sold her vegetables at the farmer's market. She was very active in her church, sang in the choir and was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary. In her earlier years, she enjoyed participating in the home demonstration club.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Pollock-Best Funeral Chapel with her brother-in-law, the Rev. Jesse Caton officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda White and husband, Floyd White Jr. of New Bern and Helen Harrell and husband, Michael Harrell Sr. of New Bern; one son, William H. Caton Jr. and wife, Carol of Pineville, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jim White and wife Ellen of Quebec, Canada, Wayne White and wife, Joanna of New Bern, Todd White and wife Chevonne of Warrenton, Va., Wendy Caton and husband Marc, of Stokesdale, NC, Anita Bell and husband Joe of Wake Forest, NC, Katie Kraniak and husband Bob, of Camden, NC, Dr. Gentry Caton and wife Allison of New Orleans, La., Dedee Dunn and husband Robert, of Kinston, NC; sixteen great grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Mrs. Caton.
The family would like to thank caregivers Connie Gehris and Becky Newton for all of the love and attention they gave her at home. A special thanks to the staff of the oncology unit at CarolinaEast Medical Center, nurses Sherra, Brian, Dedre, Frank, Kim and Sarah.

I worked for your Family in tobacco in 1969 and they were very kind to a young man that summer, who was trying to make money to pay for senior year.We worked hard for 7 dollars a day 4 days a week. I learned a lot and had your mothers good cooking. Thank you.

Remember your happy times to help you through your dark days - even though I didn't know Ms. Katie personally, we always knew of her from living in the neighborhood - her name just rhymed - giving directions - "just past Ms. Katie Caton's house" - and they knew where you were talking about - praying for God to give you peace and comfort
