Connolly, Gertrude Mary - New Bern  
NEW BERN | Gertrude Mary Connolly, 96, of New Bern, died at River Point Crest Nursing Home on Friday, May 1, 2015. Connolly had a career at the Sun Journal that spanned 50 years. She was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Msgr. Michael A. Irwin #1704. Connolly is survived by her sister Josephine Connolly Fitzsimmons of Iselin, New Jersey. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club Road, New Bern, North Carolina, on Monday, May 4, 2015 at noon. Visitation will start prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.

VANCEBORO | Ledisi Peace Jackson, 2 months, of Vanceboro, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at CarolinaEast Medical Center. Her funeral service is 1 p.m. ,Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at United Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her parents, Shante Jackson Graham and Theodore David Graham, Jr. of the home; a twin brother, Haven King Graham Jackson of the home; three sisters, Nu-Godess Jackson, My-Honesty Jackson and Empress Jackson all of the home; maternal grandparents Scottie Perry and Vivian Henderson Perry, both of New Bern; paternal grandparents Theodore David Graham, Sr. and Hattie H. Graham, both of New Bern; and paternal great grandmother Essie Graham of New Bern. The family will receive friends at the home of Vivian Perry 824 Chattawka Lane. Johnson, Paul C* - Morehead City  
MOREHEAD CITY | Paul C. Johnson, Sr., 87, of Morehead City, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Parkview Baptist Church with the Rev. David Mills and the Rev. Michael Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. Paul was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, and a loving husband for 67 years. He retired from MCAS Cherry Point and Navy Supply. He is survived by his wife Marie Johnson of the home; a daughter Joyce Wells of Powells Point, NC; sons Paul Curtis Johnson, Jr. of Newport, Jimmy Johnson of Newport, and David Johnson of Newport; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Cora Johnson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. NEW BERN | Earl Maxton Tyndall, 69, New Bern, died May 2, 2015 at CarolianEast Medical Center. He is predeceased by his parents, Ira E. Tyndall and Flora V. Tyndall and a brother, William O. Tyndall. Chandler Jr., William James "Jimmy"* - Vanceboro  
VANCEBORO | Mr. William James "Jimmy" Chandler Jr., 56, died Thursday, April 30, 2015. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Jimmy had been a resident of the Vanceboro community for 30 years and had served in the United States Navy. For more than 20 years, he had been employed with Weyerhaeuser Sawmill. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Donna Chandler; daughter, Allison, of Vanceboro; brothers, Kerry Evans, of Reelsboro, Bernie Chandler, and Ernie Chandler, both of Vanceboro; three nephews and a niece. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Vanceboro. Long, Helen Sanders - New Bern  
NEW BERN | Helen Sanders Long, of 220 David and Alvania Court, died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Pruitt Health Care-Neuse. Her funeral will be held noon Saturday, May 2, 2015 at St. Paul MB Church, 208 Perrytown Loop Road. Burial will follow in the Sanders Memorial Gardens. She served as an usher, former choir member and mother of St. Paul MB Church. She is survived by three sons, Brian Long of Temple Hills, Md., Boris Long of Suitland, Md. and Derwin Long of New Bern; three daughters, Carolyn Mitchell of New Bern, Bernice White of Temple Hills, Md. and Glenda Renee Williams of New Bern; one brother, John Sanders of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Clara Chapman of New Bern and Joann Johnson of Cambria Heights, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. NEW BERN | George Arliss Murphy Sr., 95, of 806 Tuscarora-Rhems Road, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at his residence. He is a retired hospital orderly and a member of Virgin Hill M.B. Church. His funeral service is 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Virgin Hill M.B. Church, 1235 Tuscarora-Rhems Road. Burial will follow in the Scott Family Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Hattie D. Murphy of the home; two sons, George Murphy Jr. of New Bern and Bill Staten of New York, N.Y.; five daughters, Mary Green of Springfield, Mass., Edna P. Massey and Esther Burton of New Bern, Hann-Trayka Williams of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kieanna Spencer of Greenville and 10 grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the residence. Turner, Edna Louise* - Havelock  
HAVELOCK | Edna Louise Turner, age 92, died on Wednesday, April 29th at Croatan Assisted Living in New Bern. A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Woodbridge Funeral Home Chapel, 908 Lake Road, Havelock. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Turner Franks and husband, Doug Franks of Havelock; two grandsons, Jamie Franks of Greenville; Matt Franks of Havelock, and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Judes Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929. The family entrusted their services to Woodbridge Funeral Home.

Wright Willard, Juanita Arah (Haught)*  
Juanita Arah Haught Wright Willard went to be with her Lord on May 1, 2015. She was born March 6, 1920, in Core, WV, daughter of Hiram Willis Haught and Grace Verella Ramsey Haught. She graduated from Glenville State Teachers' College and had a long career as an elementary school teacher. She married Sexton De Witt Wright in 1941, who predeceased her in 1969. In 1977, she married Donald Corbridge Willard, and they had an adventurous life of international travel for many years before settling in Sevierville, TN and finally New Bern, NC. Don and Juanita left a trail of friends wherever they were. She is survived by her children, Joseph DeWitt Wright and wife, Maripat, David Thomas Wright and wife Sally, Robert Sexton Wright and wife, Candy, Sue Ann Wright McClung and husband, Tom, Grace Lynn Wright Havel and husband, Richard, Gregory Willard, Rebecca Willard Davison and husband, David, and Charles Willard, 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Juanita was a creative, inquisitive, and energetic person, always ready for a new challenge. During her time as a single mother, she took her children and her grandchildren on camping trips. She was an outstanding and original quilter and worked with groups in Sevierville, TN, and New Bern, NC. Her original design jackets are works of art. She began competitive swimming at age 70, and participated in National Senior Olympics for many years. She loved getting medals. She has written her memoirs which will bring joy to her family. Juanita was loved by all who knew her-she never met a stranger. She leaves a legacy of love, a zest for life, and bravery to her family. A memorial service will be held in the summer.
