VANCEBORO | Ledisi Peace Jackson, 2 months, of Vanceboro, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at CarolinaEast Medical Center. Her funeral service is 1 p.m. ,Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at United Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her parents, Shante Jackson Graham and Theodore David Graham, Jr. of the home; a twin brother, Haven King Graham Jackson of the home; three sisters, Nu-Godess Jackson, My-Honesty Jackson and Empress Jackson all of the home; maternal grandparents Scottie Perry and Vivian Henderson Perry, both of New Bern; paternal grandparents Theodore David Graham, Sr. and Hattie H. Graham, both of New Bern; and paternal great grandmother Essie Graham of New Bern. The family will receive friends at the home of Vivian Perry 824 Chattawka Lane. Johnson, Paul C* - Morehead City  
MOREHEAD CITY | Paul C. Johnson, Sr., 87, of Morehead City, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Parkview Baptist Church with the Rev. David Mills and the Rev. Michael Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. Paul was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, and a loving husband for 67 years. He retired from MCAS Cherry Point and Navy Supply. He is survived by his wife Marie Johnson of the home; a daughter Joyce Wells of Powells Point, NC; sons Paul Curtis Johnson, Jr. of Newport, Jimmy Johnson of Newport, and David Johnson of Newport; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Cora Johnson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Flowers welcome or memorial donations may be made to Campers on Mission 10824 Arlington Church Rd. Charlotte, NC 28227. Jackson, Bettie Austin* - 8. Elsewhere  
Bettie Austin Jackson, age 73, of New Bern, NC passed away April 27, 2015 at the Home Place in New Bern, North Carolina. She was born January 22, 1943 in Bedford County, VA a daughter of the late Elmer B. Austin, Sr. & Rosie Elvin Martin Austin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Warren Jackson. Bettie graduated from Ferrum Junior College and received her teaching certificate from Lynchburg College. She taught school in Roanoke, VA for several years before moving to Rome, Georgia. In Rome she took up the game of golf. In just a few years she became one of the top 5 women's golfer's in the state of Georgia. She served on the board of directors of the women's golf association of Georgia for several years. Bettie and her good friend, Margaret Martin also of Rome teamed up to win most of the 2 lady events they played in Georgia and Florida. Bettie was also the state women's Champion in Georgia. Bettie is survived by her brother E. B. Austin, Jr. & his wife, Margaret; her nephew, Taylor B. Austin & wife, Joya; a stepson, Bradford A. Shadday and wife, Christy & grandsons, Tanner and Spencer Shadday of Rome, Georgia as well as well as her grand niece Emerson L. Austin of Buies Creek, North Carolina. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Bethesda United Methodist Church building fund, 1355 Preston Mill Road, Huddleston, VA 24104 or the Alzheimers Association, 1022 Commerce Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday May 1, 2015 at 11.00 AM at Bethesda United Methodist Church, Huddleston, VA with Rev. Sue Keen officiating. Interment will follow at the church Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford, VA 540-586-3304.

Jones, Zackie - New Bern  
NEW BERN | Zackie Jones, 95, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at his residence. He served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He had been employed with Maola Milk & Ice Cream Company and was a member of Clarks United Methodist Church, V.F.W., D.A.V, and the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his son, David Smith of Virginia Beach; his daughter, Frances Idziak of Raleigh; six grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside service, with military honors, will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at New Bern National Cemetery followed by a memorial service at United at noon. Arrangements are by Pollock-Best Funerals & Cremations.
