Smith, Frances Smallwood* - FAYETTEVILLE  
FAYETTEVILLE | Frances Smallwood Smith, 99, of Fayetteville, GA. formerly of Reynolds, GA., passed away April 18, 2015. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Earl A. "Happy" Smith. Mrs. Smith was a member of Reynolds United Methodist Church, Reynolds, GA. Frances was also formerly of New Bern [Riverside ]. Survivors include a son, Dr. Earl "Happy' Smith; daughter, Judy Pearson and husband Guy; grandchildren, Leigh Margaret Martin and husband Jason and James Hartley Pearson II and wife Lauren (Elwell); great-grandchildren, Lilly Frances & McCall Amelia Martin. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Cedar Grove Ext. Cemetery in New Bern, NC. The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to Reynolds United Methodist Church, 36 E Whatley Street Reynolds, GA. 31076 or St. Jude Children Research Hospital www.stjude.org. Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory.

Simmons, Marie Taylor - New Bern  
NEW BERN | Marie Taylor Simmons, 84, of 727 Main St., New Bern, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at her residence. She was a homemaker and member of First Missionary Baptist Church serving as a deaconess, choir and pastor's aide member. Her funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2015 at First Missionary Baptist Church, 819 Cypress St. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Charles Simmons Sr. of the home; two daughters, Janet Green and Marsha Simmons, both of the home; two sons, Donnie Simmons of Charlotte and Zulphur "Zeke" Simmons of Raleigh, NC; twin sister, Marion Foy of New Bern; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends at the residence. Viewing is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Oscar's Mortuary, Inc. Arrangements are by Oscar's Mortuary, Inc.

Sumerell, Hudson Harlow* - Dover  
DOVER | Hudson Harlow Sumerell, 89, of Dover passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015. Born in Craven County, he was the son of the late Mark and Neva Lee Jolly Sumerell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Wetherington Sumerell; sister, Rachel S. Hartman; and brother, Craven Sumerell. Mr. Sumerell retired as a Supervisor with the Railroad Company after forty-one years of service, and was a member of Fort Barnwell Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Kathy French and husband Danny of Jasper; sons, Jimmy Sumerell and wife Jenny of Raleigh and Craig Sumerell and wife Ginny of Charlotte; grandchildren, Heather Schlosser, Holly Webb, Megan Sumerell, Danielle Simpson, Josh Sumerell, Paul French, Fred Deluca, Jr., Felicia Serpan, Suzy Rigsbee, Rudy Heintze, Mechelle Melissaris, and Stephanie Nance; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Amy Sumerell of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Fort Barnwell Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Fort Barnwell Baptist Church, 9235 Hwy 55 West, Dover, NC 28526.
