Thompson Sr., Harry Rudolph* - Plymouth  
PLYMOUTH, N.C. | On Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, Harry Rudolph (Rudy) Thompson passed away in his home in Plymouth.  He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Smith Thompson of Plymouth, his father Charlie Gray Thompson and mother Retha Sermons Thompson of Belhaven, his brother Joe Thompson of Plymouth, and his sister Marion Radcliff of Belhaven. He is survived by his son Ronnie Thompson and his wife Beth, both of Plymouth; his daughter Wanda Kay Thompson and her husband Tom, both of New Bern; his grandsons Bryce Thompson and his wife Krista of Greenville, Brant Thompson and his wife Pinky of Durham, Ron Thompson of Durham, and one great grandson Gavin Thompson of Winterville. Rudy was born in Belhaven on Dec. 1, 1925, and lived a full life of 88 years.  He was a WWII Navy Veteran and participated in the majority of the naval battles in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Wilkes-Barre.  He witnessed the mushroom cloud of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima which effectively ended WWII.  He was also present at the signing of the Peace Treaty by General McArthur.  Rudy was a member of First Baptist Church in Plymouth and was in charge of the tape recording ministry for 20 years. He was also a Gideon with the Washington-Tyrrell Camp since 2006. He retired from Weyerhaeuser on Dec. 31, 1989, after 38 years. Rudy was married to Wilma, who passed Aug. 12, 2014, for 66 years of marriage. Ronnie and Wanda grieve the loss of both of their parents in such a short time, but find solace in knowing they have a new life together with the Lord. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church Monday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., then graveside at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington. Toler, Betty E.* - NEW BERN  
NEW BERN | Betty E. Toler, 76, died Thursday, December 4, 2014, at CarolinaEast Medical Center. She had been a private duty nurse for a number of years and enjoyed gospel music. She attended Tree of Life Ministries. She is survived by her son, Scott Toler and wife, Casey of Vanceboro; her daughter, Beverly Sturgill and husband, Greg of Atlanta; two brothers, Roy Eanes, Jr. of Houston, TX, and Jerry Eanes of Danville, VA; one sister, Vicky Kiser of Goose Creek, SC; and four granddaughters, Julia Boedy, Virginia Sturgill, Jessica Toler and Jordan Toler. Her funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, at Pollock-Best Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following at Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home of her son.
