Hudson III, Robert L. - SAN DIEGO  
Robert L. Hudson III, 64, formerly of New Bern, died on Friday, June 24, 2016, in San Diego, Calif. Military honors will be rendered at 1 p.m. Friday at The New Bern National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fonville and Dove Mortuary, Kinston.

Johnson, Carolyn Ann Beasley* - HAVELOCK  
Carolyn Ann Beasley Johnson, 71, of Havelock, passed away on July 22, 2016 at CarolinaEast Medical Center.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 189 Howard Blvd., Newport with Rev. Crawford officiating.  Carolyn served others as a Licensed Practicing Nurse for 40 years. Before retiring, her most recent position was with the New Bern Urology Clinic with satellite offices in Havelock and Jacksonville. She gave back to the community by partnering with her husband in organizations such as Havelock Cherry Point Rotary, National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association and the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina. She will be remembered most for cooking her special German chocolate cake and the love she showed her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Carolyn is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Nathaniel "Nate" Johnson; her son, Aarron Nathaniel Johnson; her daughter, Cicely Eugenia Kracoe and husband Geoffrey; grandchildren, Kelley Nikia Johnson, Iris Ashley Chadwick, Destiney Takiema Ayaunna Johnson, D'Asia Kha-Jai Ar-Moni Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Kaleb Emmanuel Johnson Henderson, Joshua Brent Parrish Jr., and Kayleigh Janaye Chadwick. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Esnold Beasley.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations in honor of Mrs. Johnson be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina, 199 Webb Blvd., Havelock, NC 28532. Kennedy Jr., Robert Alexander - New Bern  
Robert Kennedy Alexander Jr., 90, of New Bern, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Crystal Coast Hospice House. He is survived by his wife, Frances J. Alexander. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory.

Kent Jr., Richard Hood "Dick"* - New Bern  
NEW BERN | Mr. Richard Hood "Dick" Kent, Jr., 80, hit his last homer Monday, July 25, 2016. Dick was a longtime resident of New Bern and retired from the Craven County School system as a maintenance supervisor. Many people fondly remember when he drove their school bus. An avid baseball fan, Dick spent many years watching baseball games, be it Little league, or pros, he especially enjoyed going to the ECU Pirates games. He was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, BPOE Lodge #764, 50 year member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #3, and a Shriner. He was involved with the Sudan Patrol, Mini-cars, and the Camping Club. Sadly, Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Haddock Kent in May 2016. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Friday, July 29, 2016 at Trinity UMC. The family will have a reception following the service, and burial will follow at 7:00 PM in the Haddock Family Cemetery in Vanceboro. Kubik, Ayden Lane* - Newport  
NEWPORT | Ayden Lane Kubik, 6 weeks, of Newport, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Duke Medical Center while surrounded by family. A Funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Cape Carteret Baptist Church with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Ayden was born June 30th at Carteret Healthcare. Despite his short time on earth, he made a lasting impression on his family who will greatly miss their "little man." Ayden is survived by his parents, Nicole Fuller and Michael Kubik; brothers, Warren Kubik, Landon Thomas, Colton Kubik, and Ryker Fuller; sister, Analise Kubik; maternal grandfather, Mike Thomas and wife Pam; maternal grandmother, Debra McClain and husband Robert; paternal grandmother, Lisa Andreola and husband Anthony; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Cape Carteret Baptist Church. Mason, Joseph Van* - Havelock  
HAVELOCK | Joseph Van Mason, 83, of Havelock died Saturday, July 23, 2016, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House, Newport. A memorial service with Masonic Rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Atlantic United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Gouge and the Rev. Paul Harris officiating. He was born in Columbia, NC on November 21, 1932 to Clyde Mason, Sr. and Hester Lee Davenport Mason. He attended Atlantic Graded School and served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955. Mr. Mason graduated from East Carolina Teachers College and taught social studies in Virginia and North Carolina. In North Carolina, a portion of his teaching was at Havelock High School. After teaching he was a civil service employee at the Naval Air Rework Facility, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point from which he retired. Mr. Mason was a member of Newport Masonic Lodge #706, the Carteret County Shrine Club and Atlantic United Methodist Church. He is survived by his niece, Susan Mason of Atlantic, NC; sister­-in­-law, Pat Mason of Sanford, NC; first cousins, Mary Lee Pake of Smyrna, NC, Lou Ann Lyerly of Smyrna, NC, Charles Pritchett of Raleigh, NC; step­children, Donna Peel of Bay St. Louis, MS, Kenny Bell of Williamsburg, VA, Cheryl Bell of Kitty Hawk, NC and Pamela Cunningham of Hampton, VA; step­grandchildren, Louis Rivera of Havelock, Natalie Scott of Charlotte, Victor Rivera of Salem, MA and Zackary Bell of Suffolk, VA; and his beloved dog Cindy as well as beloved cousins and brothers of the Masonic Lodge. He is preceded in death by his parents, his companion of 41 years Nell Bell, sister, Jency Mae Leonard, brothers, Stevie Mason and Clyde Mason, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Sudan Shriners, 403 E.
