NEW BERN - Arthur L Humphrey, 91, of New Bern, previously of Baltimore, Md.; Cary and Warsaw, N.C., passed away peacefully on Nov. 13, 2013. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Humphrey, and four children, David Humphrey, Richardson Texas; Allee Humphrey, New Bern; Nancy McAndrew, Austin Texas; and Bill Humphrey, Boulder, Col.
Art was raised in Warsaw and started his engineering and technology career early while discovering the joys of photography, electronics, radio, and mechanical devices. He diverted from N.C. State University to the U.S. Navy during late WWII, where he worked with communications and radar.
Art began his professional career with 10 years in communications at Martin Aerospace in Baltimore prior to moving to Cary, enjoying 30 years starting and running new companies, designing and building electronic testing equipment; electronic displays and signs. Art's companies and thoughts were always at the forefront of technology.
Art passed his love of learning and entrepreneurial spirit on to his children, who all elected professional careers in engineering or accounting.
Art's special way of connecting with everyone he spoke to, from casual acquaintances to long-time friends and family, always produced an instant and magical smile from them. A skill admired and envied by all who knew him, most especially his family. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at Broad Street Christian Church.
