Dorothy Ellen Handwerk

Dorothy Ellen Handwerk (née Stock) passed peacefully at 10:12 a.m. on Sunday, December 2nd, 2012. Dottie is survived by her son Allen (Butch) Livingston, daughter Jeanne Christian, grandsons David Livingston, Derek Livingston, and Paul Christian, and great-grandsons Blake Livingston and Bryce Livingston. She is also survived by her stepchildren Michael Handwerk, Ray Handwerk, and Rhonda Newton and their children Meredith, Colleen, Mike, Ben, Matt, Rachel, and Morgan. She was 95 years old.

Dottie led a full life, owned a secretarial business, loved to play & watch sports - particularly tennis, was an avid reader & card player, and traveled extensively - with a great affinity for the beach. She enjoyed life to the fullest and always made sure to look the part.

Dottie was born in Hanover, Pa. on June 25, 1917, and moved to New York as a young girl. She married Bernard Livingston in 1937, and was with him until his death in 1971. She later married Reynold Handwerk in 1973, and they moved to North Carolina in 1992. Dottie and Rey were members of the Harbour Town Racquet Club, where she played until she was 90. They were together until his passing in 2006. Dottie continued to lead an active lifestyle until her sudden passing.

The family will hold a celebration of her life in mid-January, details of which will be announced at a later date.
