Ethel Dillahunt Swain

NEW BERN - Ethel Dillahunt Swain Edwards, 90, of 1702 Clark Avenue, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, in Fayetteville.

She was a 1942 graduate of West Street High School, 1946 graduate of Elizabeth City State Teacher's College and completed post graduate work at New York University and East Carolina University. She retired after 39 years as an educator in Havelock, James City, and Vanceboro. She was an active community leader with the Climbers Club, 4-H Club and the Retired Teachers' Association. She held lifetime membership at Macedonia M.B. Church serving as a choir member.

Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Macedonia M.B. Church with the Rev. C. B. Chadwick officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bern National Cemetery.

She is survived by her son, Michael T. Swain of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mae D. Smith of Philadelphia, Pa. and Julia D. Jenkins of Vanceboro; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the residence beginning Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 5 p.m. and at Oscar's Mortuary Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
