Gordon Ray Anderson

Retired Commander Gordon Ray Anderson, USN, born in Falconer, NY, on April 20, 1929, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013.

His naval career began when he entered recruit training at the age of 18. His 31-year service included tours of duty onboard the USS Newport News, submarines USS Carbonero, USS Salmon, USS Rock and his final commanding tour on the USS Mackerel. January 1972, Gordon reported to the Pentagon in Washington, DC, until his retirement in 1979.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 57 Years, Elaine Noonan Anderson, and his son, Bruce Ray Anderson. He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Tallerico, Joan Palmer, Tracey Tarmon, and his son, Scott Anderson. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Jerome, Jennifer, Julie, Darrell, David, Karen, Erin, Ryan, Corey, Lauren, Emily, Derek, and Madison; and 10 great grandchildren.

Gordon Anderson, a loving husband and devoted father, was a man of honor, integrity, and generosity. He lived his life as an exemplary officer and true gentleman. His influence and presence will be greatly missed, and the memories will be deeply cherished.

A celebration of life service will be held at The Well Church in Lynchburg, VA, on February 23, 2013. A funeral service will be held for CDR Anderson with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington VA, at a date to be determined.
