NEW BERN - Mr. James F. Conneely, Sr., 89, of Brooklyn, New York, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Stella Maris in Timonium, MD.
Mr. Conneely served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and was a graduate of Fordham University. After a 35-year banking career in New York City, he retired to New Bern, North Carolina, in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Conneely was a passionate advocate for Right To Life, serving as the North Carolina State Pro-Life Chairman for the Knights of Columbus and the local council Pro-Life Representative.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marianne Herlinger Conneely. Surviving are his children, Mary C. Smith and husband, George (deceased), Catherine C. Buck and husband, Elmer, James F. Conneely Jr. and wife, Becky, John P. Conneely and wife, Carla, and Eileen C. Ferree and husband, Jim; his sister, Mary Hanley; and six grandchildren Kevin, Erin, Matthew, Jessica, Caitlin, and Andrew.
Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 8, at Saint Paul Catholic Church with Father Ernest Ruede officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pollock-Best Funeral Home on February 7 from 2–4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m.
