Jeanette Lightbody

POLLOCKSVILLE | Jeanette Austin Butler Lightbody, 97, departed peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Brook Stone Living Center. She graduated from Morganton School for the Deaf and prior to her death, was the oldest living graduate. She was a homemaker, loved puzzles, socializing with the deaf community, attending church and was an accomplished seamstress. She lived in Jacksonville, Florida for more than 60 years before relocating to her home state of North Carolina to be closer to family.
She is survived by her children, Jean Butler Bender and husband Allen of Pollocksville, Mary Butler Johnson and husband Johnny of Raleigh, Ward Beecher Butler and wife Ella of Greensboro, and Robert Bryan Butler and wife Sally of Wilmington. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mary Ann LeRay, April McKeel, Holly Ladner, Tracey Johnson, Cameron Wilson and Brad Austin Butler; and her great-grandchildren, Justin Allen Woolard, Joshua McKeel, Sydney and Madison McKeel, Joshua Beecher LeRay, Kate Ladner and Luke Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at the Pollocksville Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Brook Stone Living Center for their love, support and special care of our mother.
