CARY - Jewell Kitchens Sammons, 86, of Cary, NC, passed away, Monday, April 29, 2013.
Jewell was born July 6, 1926, in Atlanta, GA to the late James Arthur Kitchens and Eula Mae Lester Kitchens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph K. Sammons.
She attended the university of Georgia in Athens studying business then began her career as a telegraph operator for the seaboard railroad where she met and married Joseph Sammons..
She enjoyed working as a fashion model in Atlanta and then owning a florist business for many years in Roanoke Rapids, NC, while raising her family.
Throughout her life she enjoyed sharing her abundant love with her family, her church and her many friends.
She always had a smile on her face and a caring hand to give to those in need.
Jewell is survived by her sons, Edward K. Sammons (Nancy) and Joseph A. Sammons, both of Raleigh; daughter, Karen Hindman (Kevin) of Laurel, MD; grandchildren, Bryan Sammons, Christopher Hindman, Greg Hindman (Becky), Jay Sammons, Anna Jones (Corey), and Jeff Sammons; and great grandson, Jeremy Jones.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. Burial will follow the service at Haywood Independent Bible Church Cemetery in Moncure, NC. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, and noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
