Josephine and Edward Worrad

NEW BERN - Josephine B Worrad passed away peacefully December 18, 2013, at the Courtyards in New Bern. She followed Edward Worrad her husband of 69 years who passed away July this year. They had lived in New Bern for 2 1/2 years.

Both Josephine and Edward were born and raised on Long Island where they met and began their long marriage. They married in Lubbock, Texas, shortly after Ed had returned from Hawaii where he had been stationed with the Army at Scholfield Barracks during Pearl Harbor.

Ed stayed in the service, became regular U.S. Air Force officer and they spent 24 years living and traveling around the US and Europe. After retirement, he finished college, taught Earth Science in Fort Worth, worked in the insurance business before retiring again to Florida in 1973. They spent the next 37 years in Sarasota, Florida –golfing, entertaining and traveling once again around the US and world including India, Russia, China and South America.

They are survived by two daughters, five grand children and 11 great grandchildren: Daughter Phyllis and her husband Norman Hoffman of New Bern, their children Trey and his wife Larissa and two daughters, Sophie and Lucy and daughter Chrys and husband Eric and two daughters Reygan and Aspen. Daughter JoEtta (Jody) lives on Long Island as do her three children- Scott and wife Laura, two daughters Caroline and Katherine, Brian and his wife Sharon, two sons Robert and Brian and daughter Melodie, her husband John and three children - John, Ashley and Anthony.

There was a military ceremony for Ed at Arlington Cemetery November 2. Jo will be placed next to Ed in the spring. There will be Celebration of Life for Jo at the Courtyards in January. Memorials can be made to or to the Wounded Warriors Project.
