NEW BERN - Mrs. Martha "Dollie" Humphrey, 86, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014. A native of New Bern, Dollie traveled the world with her husband, Hal F. Humphrey, Sr. while he served in the US Army. They returned to New Bern, and Dollie became active in her many endeavors, first of which was the New Bern Historical Society. She was instrumental in getting the Ghent Community its Historic Designation. She was also involved in the New Bern Preservation Foundation, DAR, and the Eastern NC Genealogical Society. Dollie was also active in RCS, New Bern Shrinettes, and was a 54 year member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Dollie was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Pridgen Simpson, James Blades Simspon, Sr. and her brother, James B. Simpson, Jr.
A celebration of Dollie's life will be 2:00 PM, Monday, March 31, 2014 at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Pate Greenwood and Rev. Bryan Huffman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 at the church, prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Greenleaf Memorial Park, for the family only. Dollie is survived by the love of her life, Hal Foscue Humphrey, Sr., her husband of 67 years; sons, Hal F. Humphrey, Jr; Stephen J. Humphrey, and wife Johnette, of New Bern; her sister, Jean Skinner, and husband, Richard, of New Bern; her 3 grandchildren, Lynn Cauley, and husband Allen; Stephen J. Humphrey, Jr.; and Sarah Humphrey Mayo, and husband, Perry. Dollie also leaves behind her 5 great grandchildren, Chelsea, Camry, Chandler, Colten and Alana.
