Mary Elizabeth Sellers Herring

NEW BERN – Mary Elizabeth Sellers Herring died Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Bayview Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born in Wilmington, NC on February 2, 1918, daughter of the late Robert Gaston Sellers and Rube Lee Willis Sellers.

She moved to New Bern in November 1997 from Wilmington to be close to her daughter and son-in-law. She had a very special attachment to her "granddog," Tory. He loved to visit her and speak for biscuits.

She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Neuse River Congregation.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Gray Herring in 1986 and by three sisters, Kathryn Toney, Louphelia Bordeaux, and Estelle Hall.

Surviving is her daughter, Jo Ann Pearson and son-in-law, Sam Pearson of New Bern; granddaughter, Lisa Lynn Chambless and husband, Randy, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, who called her GG for great-grandmother, Jonathan Gute, Nicholas Gute, Kylie Gute, and Hayden Chambless. She is also survived by two sisters, Beatrice Dixon and Irene Page, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; one niece and three nephews.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2710 Amhurst Boulevard, New Bern, NC with Elder Tim Talmadge officiating.
