Richard Thomas Dudley
FORT BARNWELL, N.C. - Mr. Richard Thomas "Tom" Dudley, 76, rode off into the sunset Thursday, January 31, 2013. A native and lifelong resident of Craven County, Tom was a U.S. Army Veteran, and upon return from his service, was a New Bern, N.C. policeman, in the 1960's, in their Motorcycle Division. His photo even graces the wall of a local restaurant. Tom retired from the DuPont Company and was owner/operator of Double D Stables for 17 years. He loved being around horses and was a hard working farrier. Tom was also a member of the Ionic Lodge # 583 AF & AM Masonic Lodge in Cove City, N.C. His passion was horses and he was a proud member of the NRA, AQHA, APHA, Coastal Carolina Saddle Club, and the N.C. Equine Science Conference.
A celebration of Tom's life will be 3 p.m., Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Pollock-Best Chapel with the Rev. Mike Scott officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter. Online condolences may be made at www.pollockbest.com. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Viola Gillikin Dudley and Willie M. Dudley, Sr.; and his son, Norman Jerome Dudley. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Dudley, of Fort Barnwell, N.C.; granddaughter, Emily Dudley, of Fort Barnwell; grandson, Norman Brint Dudley, of Charleston, S.C.; brother, Willie M. Dudley, Jr., of Vanceboro, N.C.; sister, Frances D. Lawrence, and husband Jeff, of Beaufort, N.C.; his great grandson, Linkin Brint Dudley; niece Rebecca Dorsey and husband Ron, of Wilson, N.C.; and his faithful black Lab, Buddy.
