Sara Strange Bailey

NEW BERN | Sara Strange Bailey lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer Friday, July 18, 2014.
Sara was born in Kingstree, SC on February 20, 1941 and was a graduate of Winthrop College. She taught in Beaufort County Schools in South Carolina, Mecklenberg County schools in Charlotte, NC as well as Garber UMC Preschool in New Bern.
Her love of teaching continued as she worked passionately with the children of Kingswood Ministry at Garber United Methodist Church. For many years she also served the church through the Alter Guild, as a Stephen Minister and also participated in numerous Bible study groups. In addition to her church activities, she enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her grandsons.  Sara was known for her kindness, generosity and love for her family.
Sara is survived by her husband of almost 48 years, M.T. ""Snook"" Bailey, her son, Hugh Bailey and his wife, Ashley, of Raleigh, NC and grandsons, Liam and Noah Bailey. She is also survived by her brothers, Keith Strange and his wife, Anne of Reston, VA and Hal Strange and his wife, Dale of Georgetown, SC and surviving niece, Sarah Catherine Ezelle and her husband, Stephen, and nephews, Alex Strange and Stuart Strange.
A service will be held on Monday, July 21 at 11 a.m. at Garber United Methodist Church, New Bern, followed by graveside service at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
