Sarah Tomlinson Foscue

Mrs. Sarah Tomlinson Foscue, age 94, died on November 5, 2012 at High Point Regional Hospital. She had been a resident of River Landing at Sandy Ridge, Colfax, North Carolina, for ten years. Mrs. Foscue was born in High Point on November 8, 1917, to the late May Lovelace and Charles Fawcett Tomlinson. She graduated from High Point High School in 1934 and was a 1938 graduate of Sweet Briar College at Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1942, she married James Edward Foscue of Jamestown, North Carolina, who at the time was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp. Mr. Foscue died on February 1, 2001. She was also predeceased by a brother, Charles F. Tomlinson, Jr. in 1974 and a sister, Anna Tomlinson Webb in 2011. Mrs. Foscue was devoted to her family, her church and the community. Over the years, Mrs. Foscue served on the boards of the High Point Junior League, the United Way, the High Point Community Concert Association, the Foscue Plantation House Historic Site and the Administrative Board of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for nine years and was a Circle Chairman for three years.

Mrs. Foscue was also a Girl Scout leader for several years. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of High Point, a member of the Utopian Book Club, Emco Investment Club, the Green Thumb Garden Club, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in North Carolina and a founding member of the Debutante Club of High Point.

Mrs. Foscue is survived by two sons and a daughter, James E. Foscue Jr. and his wife Lynn of High Point, Charles T. Foscue and his wife Cyndee of Westlake Village, California, and Sarah Foscue Merrell and her husband Mac of Raleigh; four grandchildren, John Foscue, James Foscue, Andrew Merrell and Sarah Merrell; three step-grandchildren, Clairs Wahl and her husband Mike, Lolly Merrell and her husband David Van Sickle, and Carolyn Swenson and her husband Tor; and seven step-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012, with the Reverend Richard Howle and the Reverend Dr. Al Ward officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the Asbury Room.
