Velma Foy McDaniel

NEW BERN - Velma Foy McDaniel, 65, of 707 Contentnea Avenue, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at UniHealth Care-Neuse.

She was a former cook at Robbie's Rib House and a member of St. James AME Zion Church.

Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at St. James AME Zion Church with the Rev. Cynthia Smith, pastor. Burial will follow in New Bern Memorial Cemetery.

She is survived by her four sons, James McDaniel of Maury, Jonah McDaniel of Durham, Jimmy McDaniel of Atlanta, Ga. and Jeremy McDaniel of New Bern; one daughter, Lisa McDaniel of the home; her parents, Joseph and Mattie Foy of New Bern; four brothers, Joseph Melvin Foy of New Bern, William E. Foy of Pollocksville, Donald L. Foy of New Bern and Samuel G. Foy of Copiague, N.Y.; four sisters, Ida Joy Pearsall of Brooklyn, N.Y., Betty Fonville of Polllocksville, Lisa T. Brown of New Bern and Cheryl D. Foy of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the residence. Viewing hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, at Oscar's Mortuary.
