VANCEBORO | David Lee Fillingame, age 77, passed away at home and went to be with his savior on Thursday July 17th.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Juniper Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church, 655 Piney Neck Road, Vanceboro, NC 28586. Rev. Mike Scott will be officiating. Burial will follow at Juniper Chapel OFWB Church cemetery.
Mr. Fillingame, a native of Craven County, was a lifelong resident of Vanceboro. He was a member of Juniper Chapel OFWB Church. He retired from Weyerhaeuser after 27 years in the Maintenance Department. He served as an alderman for the Town of Vanceboro for approximately 25 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Vanceboro Masonic Lodge #443.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Julia Fillingame, and three sisters: Marie Whitford, Irene Morris, and Loyce Lancaster.
Surviving him are his wife of 50 years, Mary Hasty Fillingame; daughter Denise Smith and husband, Dennis; grandchildren: Deryn, Dawsyn, and Dylan Smith, all of Vanceboro; sisters Sybil Hardy and husband, Elton, of Williamston; Joyce Gaskins and husband, Clyde, of Vanceboro; Jean Ackiss and husband, Bob of Goldsboro; brother-in-law, Gray Lancaster of Vanceboro; and brother-in-law, Wesley Morris of Vanceboro. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Community Home Care & Hospice, especially caregivers Blenda Hargett and Tisha Dean.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Farm Life Avenue, Vanceboro, NC 28586 on Saturday from 6-8 p.m.
