Alton "Bill" Ray Lamm, Jr., 81, of New Bern, died July 7, 2013 at home.

Bill served our country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chara during the Korean War. He was known for his sense of humor and he was also a loving and giving man. His interests included NASCAR, ACC Basketball, the Washington Redskins and watching the history and military channels. He loved yard work and wood working and spending time with his grandsons. Bill retired from Cherry Point Naval Air Station and was currently working part-time at the ABC Store in James City. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nora Rhodes Lamm, his parents, Alton Ray and Ruby Thomas Lamm, one brother, Albert A. Lamm and a sister, Shirley L. Sawyer.

He is survived by his son, Gerald Brent Lamm of New Bern; his daughters, Karen Lamm Nelson and husband Jeff of New Bern; Donna Lamm Faison of Vanceboro; and five grandsons, Gerald Brent Lamm, Jr., Andrew Scott Lamm, Jeffrey Ryan Nelson, Patrick Tyler Nelson and Eric Michael Nelson.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Cotten Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 11, 2013 at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
