NEW BERN - Mr. Benjamin (Ben) Blount, age 77 DOB 07/08/1935, of New Bern, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at home in Virginia Beach, Va. He was preceded in death by "the first love of his life Laura Armstrong-Blount; his mother Mary Boone Blount and father Freddy Blount. Ben was retired and over the last year had been experiencing failing health. To his family and very close friends, he was known as "Ben" or "Bubba." He was born in Brice's Creek but grew up in New Bern where he spent most of his adult life. To all that knew him, Ben was full of love and happiness with an engaging smile and kind words to all.

Ben is survived by: his wife Viola Towe and family; a daughter, Suprena (Sharon) Harvey and son-in-law Dave Harvey of Jacksonville; a son, Corey Johnson of New Bern; two granddaughters SaKina Ballenger and husband Jermaine Ballenger of Beaufort, SC; DavYana Harvey and special friend Mike Ledbetter; brother- in-law Bernard Armstrong( and wife Anita) of Queens, NY, and family; brother-in-law Robert Davis, of Brooklyn, NY; sister-in-law Mary Rivers, and Children; sisters Dora Brown of Dayton, Ohio; Doris Fairley of New Bern; brother Hebrew D. Boone of Naperville, Il; sister-in-law Rayna Boone of Naperville, Il; great grandchildren Jasiah Ballenger and Jermaine Ballenger, Jr.; nieces Arlene Blount; Lucille Brown; Judith Jordan; Lauren Boone; Gabby Boone; Devora Jenkins; Shannon Fairley; Aquanetta Littles; nephews Curtis Brown; Jesse Bobby Fairley, Jr.; Michael Fairley; Maurice Rivers of New Bern; Nelson Davis of California; and Joel Fairley; first cousins Ardene Kelly; William Boone; Orlando Blount; Bill Blount; JoAnn Blount; and Artensia Douglas. He is also survived by a host of nephews, great nephews, nieces and great nieces. Ben will be missed by all who knew him.
