Mr. Charles William "Bill" Benton, Sr., 67, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 21, 2012. To his family and most who knew him, he was known simply as "Pop." He was born and raised in Pamlico County but spent most of his adult life in Craven County. He was co-owner, with his son, of Coastal Dragline Services, Inc. and could often be found behind the controls of his Cat Excavator. He was a generous man who was always willing to help out anyone in need. He was also a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his beloved Sugar Bear.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mike Register officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Billy Benton, Jr. after the services. Those wishing to offer words of hope and comfort may visit www.pollockbest.com. Memorials, in Bill's name, may be made to 3131 RDU Center Dr. Suite 100 Morrisville, N.C. 27560, www.heart.org.

Bill is survived by his wife, Letha Johnson Benton; son, Charles William "Billy" Benton, Jr., and wife Tara, of New Bern; his brother, Maurice Benton, of Stonewall; and his pride and joy, grandsons, Lane Ross Benton and Charles Landon Benton. Bill is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
