HAVELOCK - Clarence A. Caldwell, 77, of 101 Gray Rd., died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at his residence.He was a native of Monroe, La. and a resident of Craven County for over twenty years. He retired as a gunnery sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps having served during the Vietnam War. He was founder of the Golfer's Association North-South which supported Sickle Cell Anemia and homeless children.
His funeral will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Oscar's Memorial Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Tankson, Linda Mattocks, and Joycelyn Caldwell, all of Havelock and Cassandra Caldwell Boomer of New Bern; six brothers, Robert Caldwell and Dennis Caldwell, both of Oakland, Calif., Jack Norsworthye of Havelock, Benny Ray Norsworthye, Charles Norsworthye, and Ronnie Norsworthye of Norsworthye, La.; and one sister, Joella Norsworthye of Monroe, La.; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Viewing hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Oscar's Mortuary and the family will receive friends 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the mortuary just prior to the service.
