GRIFTON | Dean E. Hawkins, 60, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at his home.

A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Hawkins Family Cemetery, 370 Harris Road, Grifton.
Dean, born and raised in Virginia, moved to Vanceboro at the age of 18 and lived in the Vanceboro-Grifton community the rest of his life. He worked as a truck driver, a mechanic, and later worked at A&J Canvas.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edwin Hugh Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Betty Jean Hawkins; two sons, Edwin Hawkins and wife, Miranda, of Grifton, and Jamie Hawkins and wife, Maranda, of Vanceboro; five grandchildren; mother, Elizabeth Amos of Keysville, Va.; siblings, Betty Ann Fowler, Paul Hawkins, both of Boydton, Va., Dave Hawkins of Grimesland, Roy Hawkins, Danny and Jerry Amos, all of Keysville, Va., and Joe Amos of West Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Hospice of Coastal Carolina, 810 Kennedy Ave., New Bern, NC 28560.
