TRENT WOODS | Frances Bell Francis, 92, died Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Sterling House. A native New Bernian, graduate of Montreat College and of Woman's College of the University of North Carolina [UNC-G], she was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as the first woman elder of the local congregation, in the Presbyterian Women as member and officer, and in the choir. Active in the community, Mrs. Francis received the Woman of the Year honor in 1973 from the Citizenship Division of the New Bern Women's Club for her work with charitable organizations.

Surviving are three sons, Charles R. Francis AIA [Barbara D.] of New Bern, David L. Francis AIA [Donna W. Francis AIA] of Cary, and Randolph H. Francis [Jessie Mitchell] of Mililani, Hawaii; three grandchildren, Charles H. Francis [Casey S.], D. Ward Francis, Mary Roberts Francis; one great-granddaughter, Nora Evelyn Francis; and cousin Nelson Bell McDaniel.
A committal service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at The Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at New Bern First Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in the Session House.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Building Fund or Music Fund of First Presbyterian Church.
