FORT BENNING, GA. - Rick "Matchhead" Bailey found the 19th hole on Nov. 3, 2012. Born Dec. 30, 1953 at Ft. Benning, Ga., Rick spent his childhood growing up in New Bern. After graduating from Chapel Hill he returned to Craven County and founded Bailey Custom Homes. Residences throughout Eastern Carolina will mark his legacy for generations to come.
Match's skill with the hammer was rivaled only by his passion for the clubs. Considered a genuine philanthropist of the links, Match continuously donated to those with lower scores.
Rick is survived by his wife, Teresa Spruill Bailey of New Bern; his sons, Derrick Bailey and wife, Sarah of New Bern, and Matthew Bailey and his wife Meghan and their daughter Penelope Rose of Richmond, Texas.
Rick is additionally survived by his sisters, Barbara Von Hofe and her husband Stanley and Catherine Talman, both of Greenville, S.C.; stepsister, Donna Forbes Durkan and husband James of Annapolis, Md.; and stepbrother, Dew Forbes and wife Valerie Holden of Beaufort.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in New Bern. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church.
A man of both integrity and generosity, Match will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by friends and family alike.
