RIVER BEND - George A. Pfeiffer, 82, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

He had served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Pfeiffer was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havelock, and VFW Post 2514. At the time of his passing he was serving on the River Bend Planning and Zoning Board. He loved woodworking and had built baptismal crosses, the narthex lecturn and processional cross for the church. He was also a co-surrogate parent at RHA Howell Care Center.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris L. Pfeiffer; two daughters, Karen Kelly of Wilmington and Debra Morriss of Charleston, SC; and grandchildren, Ryan Kelly, Kurt Kelly and special grandchild, Thomas.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. James Daub officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be 10 a.m. Monday, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pollock-Best Funeral Home, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 305 US Hwy. 70 W., Havelock, NC 28532; RHA Howell Center, 140 Pirates Road, New Bern, NC 28562; or , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
