Jean Ward Powell Overby McCain,78, went to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at her home, April 17, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Normal Earl and Rubelle Ward; a sister, Barbara Gail Ward; husbands, Milton Lee Powell and Clarence L Overby, and stepdaughter, Gloria Hopkins.

She is survived by her husband, Troy "Red" McCain, of New Bern. She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Fischer and her husband Jim of New Bern, and Jenny Fischer and her husband Jerry of Minnesott Beach; one brother, Norman Earl Ward Sr. and his wife Jane of Virginia; one sister, Virginia "Puggie" Ward of Wilmington, N.C.; one aunt, Margarite Laughinghouse of Pantego, N.C.; four grandchildren, Megan Piner of Asheville, N.C., Kim Lassiter of Minnesott Beach, N.C., Melissa Piner of Greenville, N.C., and Cameron Lassiter of Minnesott Beach, N.C.; a brother in law, El McCain and his wife Della of Newport, N.C.; sisters in law, Vita Yeager of Morehead City, N.C., Doris Fodrie of Newport, N.C., and Jane Cobble and husband Eugene of Matthews, N.C.; brothers in law, Ray McCain and wife Inge of San Antonio, TX, and Manley McCain and wife Juanita of Houston, TX; sister in law, Gail McCain of Broden, TN. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 129. She was a member of Broad Street Christian Church, and involved in the Christian Women's fellowship. She was also a previous member of Bethany Christian Church in Arapahoe, and currently a member of Sherwood Forest Free Will Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Pollock-Best Funeral home on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Funeral will be held at Sherwood Forest Free Will Baptist Church Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 2 p.m., with interment following at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
