Kermit Turner

NEW BERN – Kermit Turner, 78, died Monday, February 17, 2014 at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

He worked at Cherry Point for 37 years. He was a charter member of Tri Community Fire Department, was an avid bowler and pier fisherman, and a Carolina basketball fan. He enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judith Turner; daughter, Melba Turner Jones and husband, J. E. Jones III, of Bridgeton; one brother, Curfew Turner and wife, Mary, of Hookerton; two sisters, Donnie Hill and Dorothy Summrell, both of Kinston; four grandchildren, Chase Oliver, Grace Oliver, Reese Jones and Maegan Jones, all of New Bern; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Prentice Turner and Arden Turner; and two sisters, Gaynell Malpass and Faye Howard.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pollock-Best Funeral Home with burial to follow at New Bern Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
