Larry Shivar Obituary

Larry Dale Shivar, 55, formerly of New Bern, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 17, 2008, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

This life traveled many paths. An undying love of Allison and Derrick, enjoyment at the sound of Jimi Hendricks. The sight of a lone egret at the water's edge brought pure delight. A glance of the ocean, a pelican skimming the water, a shiny '69 Camaro or an old friend provided sincere pleasure. A cigarette in one hand and a Diet Pepsi in the other, the anticipation of consuming oysters and the feel of the sand would inspire genuine comfort. An enthusiastic devotion of sports was the norm, even a foxtrot or two. Attending a NASCAR event was priceless.

I will miss you, my knight. My heart will always embrace our days together. Convey to me the wonders of Heaven.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to The Dale Jr. Foundation, PO Box 330, Mooresville, N.C. 28115. The family will receive friends at Larry's home from 2:00-5 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008.

National Cremation Society is assisting the family.

Derrick or Allison,

Would one of you or someone else please contact me? I am from Larry's Dads side of the family. Uncle Wesley and my mom, Frances were bother and sister. I would like very much to know what happened to Larry. As I said, in my earlier message I have thought of him often through the years but had no idea of how to get up with him. I tried searching the internet and also asked people around New Bern but only found he was living out of NC. My sister Sabra did run into him in the Smokey Mountains a few years ago. I cannot find your names in the New Bern phone book.
Looking forward to talking with you. I may have some pictures of your dad when he was younger and also of Aunt Ruth.

Dear Derrick and Allison, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I always thought he was a really nice guy, and that he could always make a person laugh. I know its been ages since we have spoken, but my heart is going out to you both during this difficult time.

I am very sorry to hear of Larry's passing. Larry and I were first cousins and we were very close when we were growing up. I have thought of him often through the years and wondered where he was. Many times I have asked people in the family if they knew where he lived because I would loved to have talked to him. I loved him and Aunt Ruth very much.

Sincerely,

Darnell Long
